I n his yesterday's "Top-News: The most important thing at noon," Spiegel Online reported the following first dramatic news of a German-style shooters:
"Ralf Schumann [...]" shot himself with his rapid-fire pistol
not, however, then still without a general calming add:
"[...] Silver. "
The possible confusion in the listener is probably based on the fact that "shoot" the reflexive form of the verb is not commonly used in a chain of "indirect object-direct object," but merely a reflexive form of inherent accusative. If now the fixed form "shoot himself" in reference to a dative object and can then follow a direct object referring to it, there is a risk of misunderstanding. This risk concerns as in the above case as the third person singular, as unaffected by this form of the reflexive pronoun is the case. The same is also true, however on the first, second and third person plural:
I'll shoot myself / me
You shoot yourself / you
He / she / it shoots himself / themselves
We shoot us / us
You shoot her / you
You shoot himself / themselves
It can be assumed that just because of this problem, the phrase "someone or etw shoot "nowhere is lexicalized. Of course everyone is free to introduce neologisms and phrases and combinations in the vocabulary. That makes this even among other things. If you can erschwimmen gold and bronze Walk, why not be able to shoot even silver? "Jmdm. etw Walk "for example, is lexicalized, namely:" to win by running (as prices). you have [you] a lot of trophies Walk "
In such transmissions of other problematic phrases, but perhaps it should be very careful that there will be no unpleasant misunderstandings. Of course, the context reveals at once the intended meaning. Nevertheless, it increased at first. "Silver erschwimmen yourself" is so problematic, because "erschwimmen is" not only is lexicalized, and certainly not with problematic meaning. "To shoot," which is just lexicalized.
Is there a case against it, "fight" in an ambiguous case, conventional verbs such as "erstreiten" "win", "achieve achieve" or "use"? That to "win" was omitted, then of course, if you want to make clear that the victory less to luck than to fight, toughness, skill, concentration, beta-blockers - as apparently in the case of North Korean sports shooter Kim Jong Su - or otherwise performance is due.
Particularly problematic is "someone or etw shoot "when the 3.P.Sg. or one of the three persons plural are used in the past tense - as in the example treated - because here the syntax is such that the direct object appears only at last position and thus readers or listeners in the dark until the last leaves or in the belief that someone might have shot. The formulation would be perfect, however problematic, because here comes the explanatory Accusative before the problematic verb: "He shot himself silver." The present tense, however poses the same problem as the past tense. "He shoots himself silver" This is pluperfect back problems "He had shot himself silver." Equally problematic are future I and Future II: "He will shoot silver or have shot."
But Spiegel Online gives the impression of "someone or etw shoot "for equality against" someone or Walk to something "to help. So you can read there, for example in an article of 30.11.2007 on the biathlete Magdalena Neuner:
[...] They duped the whole world's top biathlon, erlief and gold shot in the disciplines of persecution, and in the sprint relay.
That sounds almost like the "silver bullet". In the struggle for equality will probably not be put aside and the Hessian Radio reported yesterday:
[...] The shooter is the first Christian Reitz Hesse, who has won a medal in Beijing. On Saturday morning [sic] he shot the bronze.
Less ambiguous, as formulated more sensitive to voices the free Swiss commuter newspaper. "Ch", where a message from the 15th August is:

A clever move by syntactic: It is simply the direct object at the very beginning and thus can easily "someone or etw shoot "in the 3.P.Sg. and use the past tense. Here, however, "someone or shoot something "yet adds, so that" someone or etw to shoot jmdn "receives.
Also linguistically sensitive as the mirror line and the Hessian Radio shows are just the German Shooting Federation, namely from the fifth in a message May this year, the ambiguous term in quotation marks:
In the individual competition of juniors it was Florian Hoheisel [...], the ring with 595 [sic] the gold medal "shot".
Possibly, there is concern at the recent school shootings around his reputation and wants to avoid misunderstandings at any price.
An example in which the Enlightenment can wait really long for is found in the current releases of the SSG-Röwekamp, a marksman from the district of Osnabrück, where it says:
Lisa shot himself in the finals followed by piercing shot of 6 Place started out the bronze medal.
At the latest after the piercing shot mentioned most readers probably Lisa no longer among the living. Not to mention the fact that here the use of sharp s, and double "S" bit is turned on its side and also the use of commas, for purposes of facilitating classification and understanding has come a little too short.
Finally, it should be noted that it is now not just so that Spiegel Online the "language guardians of the Year 2004" and an editor of this very medium - Sick - not at times would provide a field of activity, although this is sure shot so busy sometimes ...
N stands un "Radio Hamburg" not just suspected to fulfill an educational mission. Rather, it is piping and shallow content stingy to himself. Nevertheless, it irritated a bit, if the private channel specifically in the heart of his district, "the most beautiful city in the world," namely, how the Elbe on "Radio Hamburg" refers to a preference, a not inconsiderable knowledge gap revealed.
